Exercise Science Option Undergrad

The Exercise Science option is designed to provide students with an in-depth biological and social science background focusing on the role of exercise in physiology, health and fitness. The primary focus of the program is to prepare students for post-baccalaureate study in exercise physiology and related sciences.

Students in Exercise Science at the University of Montana can expect to be involved in laboratory research during their junior and senior years and to have a solid foundation in laboratory procedures, health and exercise and a theoretical foundation to support further learning.

The faculty in HHP is dedicated to a learning environment centered on students. The Exercise Science faculty, Dr. Brent Ruby and Dr. Steven Gaskill are well respected around the country and world for their work in endurance and work physiology focusing on metabolism, health and immune function in wildland firefighters, long duration work and exercise and a wide variety of topics. Additionally, Dr. Blakely Brown is a nutritional biochemist providing mentoring and research opportunities for students interested in investigating role of nutrition in women’s health, specifically, obesity, type 2 diabetes, bone metabolism and osteoporosis, and improving outcomes in people with physical disabilities.
